Latest Kirby Craze

Keeping with the comparison theme from the last post, this latest review from NintendoLife goes beyond a mere comparison between the original “Kirby’s Return to Dream Land” and its recent deluxe version. Better graphics, new features and more are just the tip of this iceberg. Returning to Kirby’s roots in this side-scroller really brings any major fans of the franchise to tears, especially with the new “Mecha” Copy Ability to add to the Pink Puff’s toolbelt. A remake of an older game doesn’t just bring feelings of nostalgia to fans of any game, but also ‘preps’ them for the next big installment of their favorite franchise.

Pokémon Debate

The above link is for an article on which version of the latest Pokémon game (Scarlet or Violet) is better. This kind of review goes back to the previous post, in terms of how people compare one famous character in any media to a different character. In this case. it’s not just based on the story, music, or graphics, but comparing the version-exclusive Pokémon based on design and move sets. This article also compares the first two version-exclusive professors in the Paldea region, Sada and Turo. Players making this sort of connections have one of two different outcomes: Telling people to play this game or telling them to ignore it. People may write the reviews, but it’s ultimately up to the readers to see if the game(s) in question is worth playing

Fusion Fan Fight

The above link is a video for the latest ‘Death Battle’, where the people at Rooster Teeth compile the data of 2 fighters from different franchises (most of the time), regardless of entertainment forms. This battle in particular is between Gogeta and Vegito from Dragon Ball. When making video games that don’t tie into an ongoing story (in other words, starting something new), game creators sometimes look at the elements of other franchises that do well, and then find ways to make their own version of it. For instance, Classic Mega Man may have been heavily inspired by old shows like the original Astro Boy, which takes place in a future where robots and humans work hand in hand, and has a rogue’s gallery of robots that try to cause trouble.

Digging Deep to find art’s meaning

The above link is an article that makes one really think about why they do works of art in the first place. For some, it may be money, for others would go for recognition or as a way to express themselves. When creating art for games, there can be several elements to consider, such as themes, landscapes, and more. When using these elements correctly, games won’t just sound great because of music and dialogue (if any), but because of the stunning graphics and artwork as well.

Favorite AMVs

The above link is a video of the Animated Music Video (AMV, for short) Maker Chorus Singer 21’s “Soulburner vs Jack (Arc-V) Fantasy Duel AMV”. When making video games, it’s not just the story and game mechanics that makes gamers come back for more, but it’s the music that sets the scene that may resonate with them that’s the moneymaker. The emotion in this duel between these two beloved Yugioh characters can really be seen with the music selection used in the video.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 Walkthrough

The above link is for a walkthrough video of Azure Striker Gunvolt 3’s intro stage made by the ‘Game-walkthrough’ Youtuber MegaQuint. Even though I’m still waiting on my pre-ordered physical copy of the game, I’ve looked at video reviews of this game, along with walkthroughs and information on the game’s official website, and Inti Creates’ latest Gunvolt game looks promising, considering that the franchise was heavily inspired by the Mega Man Zero series. Many people growing up have and will almost always be gamers at heart, but it takes certain elements in games including character design, story, and challenges that makes fans keep coming back for more of what gamers love.

Edit: I received my preordered copy of Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 on February 18.

Sonic Fan Animation

The above link is the first episode for a Sonic fan-made animation made by the Youtuber SpacePea known as “Super All Star Bros.”, which combines characters and elements from the Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario, and Freedom Planet franchises, all wrapped together in a bow to say the least. From just the first episode alone, I can’t wait to see what happens next. Now, you might be thinking “Why should I be interested in this post”, so let me explain: I’ve been working on a video game idea for a few years now, with only the character designs and an ongoing story draft which I’ve been working on all by myself, and I’m trying to look for some help with getting it sorted out. You can look on the about page of my GenesisWars2018 website (located on the Video Game Designs page) for the google doc to see for yourself what your getting into.

Early History of Lego

The above link is a video on the early history of Lego, up to the first iteration of Legoland. From when I was a kid up to a few years ago, Lego bricks were a big part of my life. Playing with those bricks back in the day was really cool, playing out all of these interesting stories depending on what theme the set was from, whether it was movies like Jurassic World, or original ideas like the still going strong Ninjago. Believe it or not, a Yugioh archetype I created was partially based on the models I made from Legos! Watching this video really helped me through some stressful times in college, and maybe the same can be said for you.
